At Balanced Physical Therapy + Wellness, we understand dancers in a way few clinics can—because we are dancers too. Our Innovative Dance Therapy program is designed to help dancers of all ages and backgrounds prevent injuries, recover from them, and return to the stage stronger than ever.

Our Innovative Dance Therapy Program is led by two professional dancers who are also DPTs.

Whether you're pirouetting in pointe shoes, grooving in hip-hop class, or getting back into movement after time away, we provide specialized care rooted in both physical therapy science and firsthand dance experience.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for This Program?

Anyone with a passion for dance. Our program supports dancers of all levels pre-professional, competitive, recreational, or retired. Whether you’re training intensively or exploring dance for wellness, we’re here to keep you moving safely and confidently.

Do You Have to Be a Current Dancer?

Not at all! We work with past, present, and future dancers. You don’t need to be enrolled in a dance program or currently performing. Our goal is to support your body’s needs, whether you're preparing to return to the stage or simply love to move.

Do You Have to Be a Certain Age?

Absolutely not. We welcome dancers of all ages from young children discovering creative movement to seasoned performers seeking longevity and injury prevention. Our team tailors each session to your specific age, goals, and dance background.

Where Do Sessions Take Place? What Equipment Is Used?

Dance therapy sessions are designed with flexibility and accessibility in mind. We can treat you in a dance studio or in the clinic - whichever works best for you.

In-studio sessions typically include:

  • A private or semi-private setup

  • A portable massage table for soft tissue work

  • Therabands, ankle weights, and balance tools for strength and stability

  • Custom exercises tailored to your technique, form, and injury profile

We work with you in your environment, allowing for realistic rehab that mimics the movements and challenges dancers face every day.

What Sets Our Program Apart?

Benefits

Our two licensed PTs are current dancers so we don’t just understand the clinical side of rehab, we understand the demands of your sport from the inside out. This means:

  • You’ll speak the same “dance language” with your therapist

  • Treatment plans are built around actual choreography demands

  • We prioritize functional return-to-performance

  • Injury prevention is dancer-specific

Services
  • Dry Needling: This technique targets trigger points and muscle knots using thin, sterile needles to reduce tension, improve mobility, and relieve pain. It’s especially helpful for dancers dealing with chronic tightness or overuse injuries—helping muscles relax and perform more efficiently.

  • Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy: BFR uses specialized cuffs to partially restrict blood flow during low-load strength training. This helps dancers safely build strength and endurance without placing extra stress on joints—ideal during injury recovery or when preparing for a demanding performance season.

What’s the Cost? Is Insurance Accepted?

Yes, we do accept insurance for dance therapy sessions. These are billed as normal outpatient PT visits, just like any in-clinic session.

  • Cost with insurance varies by plan (copay, coinsurance, deductible, etc.)

  • Self-pay rate: $120 per session

Ready to Dance Stronger?

If you're a dancer looking to prevent injuries, heal fully, and stay in top form—this program is for you. Our dance-savvy PTs are here to support your artistry and athleticism every step (and leap) of the way.
