Congratulations! You’ve officially been discharged from physical therapy. Whether you were recovering from surgery or rehab-ing an injury, reaching discharge is a major milestone.
However, we know that for many patients, the final appointment can feel a little bit like "leaving the nest." You might feel a bit lost without your therapist’s regular guidance. So here is your roadmap for maintaining your progress and ensuring your hard work at Balanced Physical Therapy + Wellness sticks for the long haul.

1. Your Home Exercises Are Still Your Best Friend
During your final sessions, your therapist likely provided you with a refined home exercises. Think of this as your "maintenance manual."
The Science of Maintenance: Muscles and joints require consistent stimulus to maintain the strength and range of motion you gained in the clinic.
Don’t Drop the Routine: Even if you feel 100%, performing your key exercises 2–3 times a week can prevent old compensation patterns from returning.
2. Listen to Your Body
One of the most important things you learned in PT was how to read your body’s signals. After discharge, you are the primary expert on your own movement.
Green Light: No pain, normal soreness after activity. Keep going!
Yellow Light: A familiar "twinge" or stiffness that lasts more than 24 hours. This is a sign to scale back your intensity and return to your foundational PT stretches.
Red Light: Sharp, stabbing pain or swelling. This is a signal to stop that specific activity and reach out to us for a "tune-up" visit.
3. Integrate Your "PT Brain" Into Daily Life
The goal of therapy was never just to do exercises in a gym—it was to change how you move in the real world.
The Ergonomics Check: Are you still using the lifting mechanics we practiced when picking up your grandkids or groceries?
Postural Awareness: Remember the "tall spine" cues during your commute between cities or while sitting at your desk.
The "Micro-Break": If you have a sedentary job, continue those 30-second mobility breaks we taught you to keep your joints lubricated.
4. Join One of Our Wellness Programs
Discharge from one-on-one therapy doesn’t have to mean the end of your journey with us. In fact, many of our patients find that transitioning into one of our Wellness Programs is the best way to bridge the gap between "rehab" and "total fitness."
Our programs are designed for growth, education, and community. Whether you want to refine the skills you learned in the clinic or challenge yourself with a completely new movement, we have a program for you.
Community Swim: Take advantage of our warm water pool! Aquatic exercise is one of the best low-impact ways to keep your joints moving and your muscles active without the strain of gravity.
Mommy + Me Fitness: Staying active as a parent is a challenge. This class allows you to focus on your fitness goals alongside your little one, focusing on functional movements that help with the "heavy lifting" of parenthood.
ScoliClub: Specifically designed for those managing scoliosis, this program focuses on posture, core integration, and specialized strength training to keep your spine supported and your body feeling balanced.
And Many More!
5. We Are Always Here for a "Tune-Up"
Think of your physical therapist like your primary care doctor or your dentist. You don’t only see them when things are broken, you see them to keep things working.
If you start a new hobby (like pickleball or running) and feel a new ache, or if you just want to make sure your form is still correct, you can always schedule a check-in appointment. A single session can often nip a small issue in the bud before it becomes a major setback.
The tools you learned at Balanced Physical Therapy + Wellness are yours to keep. You’ve done the hard work of retraining your body, now, the goal is simply to keep that momentum moving in the right direction.
Stay active, stay mindful, and stay balanced!
