Living with lymphedema or lipedema can be overwhelming, not just physically, but emotionally and socially as well. These chronic conditions require long-term management, lifestyle changes, and a strong understanding of how to maintain optimal health. One of the most underutilized—yet incredibly powerful—tools for managing these conditions is a support system.
At Balanced Physical Therapy & Wellness, we recognize that healing is not just about therapy sessions and treatment plans—it’s also about connection, encouragement, and community. That’s why we proudly host a Lymphedema + Lipedema Support Group every other month, open to anyone in the community.
Why Support Systems Matter for Lymphedema & Lipedema
Having a support system—whether it’s family, friends, healthcare providers, or fellow patients—can significantly improve how individuals cope with chronic conditions like lymphedema and lipedema.
Here’s how support groups make a difference:
1. Emotional Well-being
Support groups offer a safe space to share frustrations, setbacks, and victories with people who truly understand. The emotional relief from knowing you’re not alone can reduce stress, anxiety, and even depression.
2. Education & Empowerment
Our meetings often feature discussions led by lymphedema specialists, physical therapists, or guest speakers who provide helpful information about condition management, compression therapy, nutrition, exercise, and more.
3. Motivation & Accountability
Seeing others make progress can be incredibly motivating. Support group members often encourage each other to stay consistent with home exercises, wear compression garments, and attend therapy sessions.
4. Practical Tips
No one understands the daily challenges of living with lymphedema or lipedema better than someone else going through the same thing. Support group participants often share valuable tips and hacks for managing swelling, pain, and fatigue.
5. Building Lifelong Connections
Living with a chronic condition can feel isolating. A support group introduces you to people who can become allies in your journey—people who truly "get it."
