Transforming Physical Therapy in New Mexico: How Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) Accelerates Your Recovery

We are continually seeking innovative ways to help our patients heal faster, reduce pain, and restore physical function, here at Balanced Physical Therapy + Wellness in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We know that in-clinic physical therapy sessions are only one piece of the puzzle. Up to 80% of your recovery relies on what happens between your visits, when you are at home managing your exercise routine, pain, and daily activities.
To bridge this gap, we have officially adapted Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) into our practice model.

What is Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM)?
Remote Therapeutic Monitoring is a technology-driven, hybrid care delivery framework that seamlessly connects you with your care team outside of traditional clinic hours.
Rather than relying on memory or handwritten exercise logs during your weekly in-person appointments, RTM uses digital healthcare tools to track your non-physiological data in real time including:
Home Exercise Program (HEP) completion rates
Pain levels and pain triggers during daily activity
Response to prescribed exercises and movement difficulty
Functional progress and joint mobility over time
The Science: Why RTM Produces Superior Outcomes
Recent clinical studies demonstrate that combining in-person physical therapy with remote digital monitoring leads to exponentially better patient outcomes compared to traditional, in-clinic-only care:
Higher Functional Improvement: A large-scale multicenter study published in Archives of Rehabilitation Research and Clinical Translation found that patients using RTM alongside in-person physical therapy were significantly more likely to achieve their target functional benchmark scores (72% vs. 63% for in-person only) and maintained higher session attendance rates.
34% Boost in Physical Function: Research analyzing digital rehabilitation platforms shows that real-time monitoring and engagement lead to a 34% greater improvement in physical function and a 33% reduction in pain interference.
Closing the Adherence Gap: Up to 70% of patients struggle to stick with home exercise programs due to forgotten instructions or lack of accountability. RTM addresses this directly through video demonstrations, automated reminders, and interactive feedback.
The Secret Ingredient: Dedicated Off-Hours Support & Care Navigation
What makes RTM truly transformative at Balanced Physical Therapy + Wellness isn't just the mobile app technology, it’s the human element.
When you participate in our RTM program, you get ongoing, proactive check-ins from a dedicated care colleague on our team. This includes personal touch points during non-visit and non-clinic hours such as evenings and weekends.
If you run into trouble with an exercise on a Saturday afternoon, experience a sudden flare-up after work, or have questions about proper form, our team member reaches out to offer support, answer questions, and adjust your care protocol. This continuous layer of care prevents small setbacks from compounding into major roadblocks.

Program Eligibility: How to Participate
Because RTM requires dedicated staffing and customized setup, we are currently accepting a select group of patients into this initial rollout.
To participate in our primary covered RTM program, selected patients must meet the following criteria:
Mobile App: Download and register on our secure practice platform, Balanced PT W.
Active Home Exercise Plan: Have an active Home Exercise Program (HEP) listed within your Balanced PT W app profile.
Insurance Coverage: Have an insurance plan that provides RTM coverage benefits (as coverage varies by provider). Some insurance plans do not allow RTM coverage.
Note on Insurance Coverage: While RTM is covered by many major insurance carriers, not all insurance policies currently cover remote therapeutic monitoring services. However, if you do not meet the standard coverage requirements but are eager to participate in RTM to accelerate your recovery, please let us know! We can discuss options to help you get involved.
